Thanks to all who turned out to support this fun and challenging event(s).  All of the junior teams were represented and took part in a series of events that tested a great deal about a players’ fitness, skill and attitude whether coming first or last.  Each team competed to find their own ‘Superstar’ and competed in the following events.

  • Sprinting,     -100m
  • Sustained running,  - 800m
  • Accuracy when shooting, -Target Shoot
  • Finishing power  -Shoot Out
  • Throw in Power  - Throw in
  • Strike Power   -Dead Ball Distance
  • Skill    -Keepie Ups
  • Physical Stamina  -Gym Tests

It was great to see the effort that the boys put into the events and the steely determination shown on some of the faces showed the right attitude and what it means to win.  But more importantly lets not forget the lads who knew they were never going to win but still kept going.  No fear of losing- just the thrill of taking part and never giving in  - like Kevin Keegan - for those of us old enough to remember the original Superstars . These are the players who provide the backbone of any good side and not your fickle prima donnas who play for themselves- like some Man U and Chelsea stars I could mention. Great effort boys.

Although there was a high turnout with balls flying about everywhere the events went very smoothly and most teams finished well within 3 Hours. Thanks to Dave Heal for some skillful flipping of those burgers - sorry you didn’t qualify for a medal - , the girls serving up the tea, Andy Flint for the MC duties and all who helped make the day the success it was.

Medals were awarded from 1st to 4th places but everyone got something out of the event regardless of finishing position whether learning about themselves, getting fit or just having a lot of fun with their friends (or maybe all three).  See you next year.

Scott Macleod.

Under 8sThree Winscombe boys were included in the Bristol City Development Centre squad that travelled to Camber Sands in Sussex for a tournament over the Easter weekend.

The team finished in third place, only losing to the eventual winners and all three of the Winscombe boys scored goals and played some excellent football.

The boys are pictured with reality TV show star and ex Manchester United and England player Lee Sharpe, who presented trophies to the boys.

The Winscombe players are James Ford (middle row 2nd from right), Toby Chambers (front row left) and William Smith (front row 2nd from right).

Exciting times at Winscombe with New Management teams at Senior and Junior levels

“The time to fix the roof is when the sun is shining” is a quotation reflecting the significant changes that happened at Winscombe over the summer months.  Forget the Premiership ‘merry go round’ it was at Winscombe where the real changes have taken place.

After excellent seasons for the First Team, Reserves and Under 18 sides changes took place at management level.  On this occasion, not unlike Liverpool of old, all of the appointments were of former Winscombe players.  Ex-Club Captain Gregg Dover took over as First Team Manager, a joint pairing of Darren Draper and Guy Bradford took on the role of Player Managers for the Reserves and Mark Green, returned to Winscombe, bringing with him a crop of talented younger players from Worle.

At Junior level we welcome Scott McCleod and Paul Knight as Managers of the Under 13 side and Mike Martin as Manager of our Under 11 side.

We wish them all well for a great season.  A big thank you from the Club and all of the players for taking on these roles.
